Quite a bit of stripping down needed to replace the air conditioning condenser on this Ford Focus MK3 today.

You can see the areas of leakage on the old condenser in the second photo.

I attended this vehicle a few days ago and unfortunately it wasn't a simple recharge but had leaks which were found with a nitrogen pressure test.
The new part was ordered and I returned this morning to fit the condenser and recharge the system ready for the customers holiday.
All carried out conveniently at the customers workplace.

Auto-Chill provide a fully mobile car aircon recharge and repair service for both the R134a gas systems and the latest R1234yf gas system fitted to newer vehicles.

Hartlepool
A very nice review from Kay the owner of this Audi TT that got an air conditioning recharge service this morning in Hartlepool.

"The air con in my old Audi hasn't worked for years and I'd presumed it was totally cream crackered/beyond repair. I contacted Ian after reading the reviews on here and he's just been out. Within 45 minutes he had the air con working again, for a very fair price 😁👍. Very professional service, at my own house - perfect in every way! Thank you.
Highly recommended."

An unusual one today on this Nissan NV200.
The vehicle was booked in for condenser replacement having already been checked at the Nissan dealer and the owner told that there was a hole in the condenser caused by stone damage so not covered under warranty.
After removing the front bumper and condenser I found a bolt laid on the plastic undertray, I knew it wasn't one I had removed so looked to see where it had come from.
It was a perfect fit for the damage on the old condenser so obviously was thrown up from the road and went straight through the grille in the lower section of the bumper.
New condenser fitted and recharged the Aircon so the system is back to full operation again.

I seem to be spending half my week trying to locate small leaks on car air conditioning systems lately.

Most of these jobs have already had an aircon recharge done at a garage or fast fit centre, some even on a cheap Groupon deal.
It either hasn't lasted long before the aircon went off again or the customer was told the car had a leak but they couldn't find it or didn't have the equipment to test the system.

If your cars air conditioning isn't working and the system is empty it should be pressure tested first to make sure it has no leaks, it is illegal to put refrigerant gas into a known leaking system.
So if it's empty it probably has a leak.

Fully automatic machines are mainly used by garages to carry out aircon recharge service, the machine will do a vacuum on the system and hold it for a few minutes.
If it doesn't drop the vacuum too much over that time it will gas the system up ( It doesn't have to not drop the vacuum at all, it just needs to not drop too much too fast).
Your air conditioning system works under very high pressure so a vacuum test is not really going to find those small pinhole leaks.
You will probably be told there were no leaks found by the machine and off you go with nice cool air conditioning only to find in a matter of days or weeks you are back to having no aircon.

Unfortunately this is when I get the phone call after the customer has already spent money or had the job done again with no success.

If I attend a car with a completely empty system I will always do a leak test by pressurising the system using nitrogen/hydrogen mix to try and trace leaks.

It's wasting money filling a leaking system and releasing harmful refrigerant into the air.

Get the job done properly.
